Brief Description:  Transport trailer

I've been mulling over options to transport the Onex to the airport. Yesterday I bought a Harbor Freight folding utility trailer, item #90154. It was on sale for $300 and with a 20% off coupon, was $240 plus tax. Today I assembled the trailer.

The trailer is rated for a 1200# load, about twice what the Onex weighs. The distance between the fenders is only 48" and the outside track of the Onex is about 60". I'm planning to bolt several 4x4x6' long beams across the trailer, then bolt on (3) 2"x8"x12' or 14' planks lengthwise for the wheels to ride on. Image (1) shows how a 4x4 will allow clearance above the fenders.

Another advantage of this trailer is that the tongue pivots. This will allow tilting the bed to roll the Onex onto it. I'm thinking of installiing a manual winch that will pull the Onex on/off the trailer.

Image (2) shows the trailer in the folded/stored position. Of course that will not work with the beams/planks attached, so those would need to be removed if I need to stow the trailer. I'm thinking I'll only use the trailer twice a year, in the spring to move the plane to the airport, and in the fall to bring it home for the winter.

Those winter months will be used for the conditional inspection and any modifications I wish to make to the plane. Something like a turbocharger might be nice or upgrade to a more "glass" panel after I'm satisfied things are sorted out using the analog gauges.
